Leap of Faith: Auction to Benefit Children's Cancer Research Attracts Major Crypto Artists
Spurred by personal tragedy, crypto industry creator Leap has enlisted over 30 artists for a charity auction to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
A prominent crypto industry creator is channeling his personal journey and using his platform for a meaningful mission: Raising funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through cryptocurrency donations and NFT sales.
Pseudonymous influencer Leap’s upcoming initiative will debut with an art auction at Art Basel Miami on Friday afternoon, bringing together the worlds of blockchain and fine art to support life-saving research. It marks the culmination of months of personal and professional transformation, fueled by his determination to make the crypto space a force for good.
In an exclusive interview with Decrypt, Leap shared that in a space often dominated by speculation and quick profits, he found himself an increasingly reluctant participant, yearning for a deeper sense of purpose. Leap was unsatisfied with how the Web3 space was going.
“People were raising millions of dollars for questionable projects, and it felt so shallow,” he recalled.

It’s finally the day! After many sleepless nights, it’s time for the auction. Super proud of my team for helping me put this together. I have many I want to thank, but I’ll save that post for later. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do. https://t.co/hsWMaadiyT
But it wasn’t until a personal tragedy struck that his path became clear.
Earlier this year, his father was diagnosed with stage-4 prostate cancer. The diagnosis propelled Leap into a period of reflection.
“When you’re faced with that kind of pain, it forces you to rethink everything,” he shared. “I'm not blaming anybody, but the constant reminder of the turmoil that my family is in is a good thing, because it lights a fire under my ass and makes me push harder and push my team harder.”

On his birthday, March 19, Leap decided to channel his frustration into action. He made a post containing a crypto donation wallet address to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“I thought I’d raise maybe $10,000, $20,000 tops,” he said. However, Leap was stunned when his community contributed over $100,000 in just 24 hours. He donated every cent.
The overwhelming response from the crypto community was an eye-opener. “That’s when I realized the potential of this space to drive real impact,” he said.
After the donation, the St. Jude’s Web3 department invited him to visit its campus in Memphis. That trip cemented his resolve. In its iconic Flags of the World room at the Danny Thomas Research Center, surrounded by banners representing the hospital’s global mission, Leap said he was moved to tears.
“It felt like divine intervention,” he recalled. “I finally found a purpose that wasn’t shallow, but could genuinely shape crypto.”
He took two months off social media in isolation to ruminate, plan, and build a team to help execute his vision. Over the past nine months, Leap said he poured over $200,000 of his own money into the project, assembling a team of developers, designers, and legal experts.
I’m at a loss for words. This 1/1 piece of art was created by Groowut, the genius behind fwog’s art, specifically for our St. Jude charity auction. This once in a lifetime piece will be available for bidding for 24 hours on Magic Eden, starting Dec 6th at 2pm est. pic.twitter.com/KgI9xOMXy4
“I’m putting my money where my mouth is,” he explained. “I didn’t want to be another failed startup burning through investor money. This had to be real, and it had to work.”
His company, not yet revealed to the public, aims to fuse together art, technology, and philanthropy in an effort to bring transparency, efficiency, and innovation to charitable giving.
To start the initiative off with a bang, they organized Friday’s live auction featuring works by prominent digital artists, including a highly anticipated one-of-one piece expected to fetch six figures.

“Art is at the heart of crypto,” Leap said. “It’s what makes the space human—it connects us in ways that go beyond profit.”
The Art Basel auction, which will also take place online via NFT marketplace Magic Eden, features one-of-one works from over 30 leading digital artists.
Notable collaborators and donors of the auction include the enduring NFT projects Azuki and Doodles, as well as Art Blocks founder and “Chromie Squiggle creator Erick “Snowfro” Calderon, Patrick Amadon, Jimena Buena Vida, Vinnie Hager, Efdot, Groowut (artist behind meme coin Fwog), and more.
“Art is the soul of crypto,” Leap said. “Everything in this space—from NFTs to memes—begins and ends with art. Supporting artists is supporting the foundation of this industry.”

For Leap, this initiative is more than a fundraiser; it’s a statement about the potential of crypto to drive meaningful change.
“Crypto excels at raising funds, especially after big wins,” he noted. “But we need to modernize and decentralize philanthropy to build trust and transparency.”
As Leap prepares for the auction, he remains optimistic. “This space has so much potential to do good,” he said. “We just need to harness it the right way.”
With Art Basel as the starting point, Leap’s journey from personal pain to purposeful innovation is poised to make waves—both in crypto and beyond.
