Read Decrypt On The IPFS Network

You can now read all your favourite Decrypt articles on the InterPlanetary File System, the decentralized file-sharing network that opens the door for anyone to take part in the advent of the web3 age.

IPFS is a peer-to-peer protocol for file-sharing and website hosting that runs across thousands of computers. It's an open-source project with a community of more than four thousand contributors around the world, developed by the team at Protocol Labs, an open-source R&D lab.

Instead of having registrars like GoDaddy host your website on their own servers, IPFS websites are hosted by other users—think of it as the BitTorrent of website hosting.

So, should a website run on IPFS, no authority or hosting provider would be able to take the site down.

It uses a similar distributed architecture to the blockchain, but it’s a separate technology—though blockchain apps do make use of it to make themselves even more resistant to censorship.

To read Decrypt articles on IPFS, all you need to do is scroll down to any article on Decrypt.co and among the sharing buttons, you'll find the IPFS link.

In order to read the articles, you'll need to install either IPFS Desktop or IPFS Companion. While Decrypt is among the first media companies to host articles on IPFS, there have already been a number of examples of how a decentralized file-sharing system is being used already.

Opera browsers on Android can browse IPFS links automatically, Brave hosts its decentralized merchandise store on IPFS, and Microsoft's self-sovereign identity system, named Microsoft ION has been built on IPFS too.
